My boys have been doing awesome with their sports lately. Last week I left work and went straight to a cross country meet that Easton was running in. It's the first that I've made it to this year. He's been doing great at the previous ones, so I was excited to get to see him in action.
This was a huge group. About 280 6th, 7th and 8th grade boys running a two mile race. He came in 56th! His time was 13:59. He was the 2nd fastest Oakdale boy (an 8th grader was 1st). He still has yet to bring home a trophy or medal and I've had to explain that it's okay... not everyone will get those. They are usually given to the top 20 in the race. I keep telling him that this is his first year to compete and that he's only a 7th grader... his day is coming!
I'm still amazed that he's such a good runner. His coaches say that he's a natural runner. He definitely doesn't get it from my side of the family... must be a Gayle trait. I don't run... unless something or someone really mean is chasing me!
Mason has been kicking butt and taking names on the football field! He is absolutely loving football! Even though his team are still the "_aints", they get out there and hustle and give it their all. Even the refs. at the games say that they are the most improved team they've seen out there.
Mason is the smallest on his team, but he doesn't let that stop him. He's not afraid to get in there and mix it up with the big boys.
He had a very special night on Monday, he scored a touchdown AND got the two point conversion! Of course, I was jumping up and down on the sidelines yelling like a banshee WITHOUT my camera! I'm the best. mom. ever! I'll be sure to have it at the next game!
Side note... Mason's touchdown was only the second one scored on the other team this season! Woo Hoo! Way to go little buddy!
Can you see how proud I am of these fellas?
yeah, i'm sure...sort of....

Your boys get it from their great-grandad. My dad and Noel Gayle, as you know, were cousins. My dad was fast, as a kid, but he always told me that NOBODY, BUT NOBODY could catch Noel Gayle! He was greased lightning! Your boys may also get their speed from other genetic input, but this much I know. I've heard about Noel Gayle for most of my life!
I'm happy for the boys! Congratulate them for the Shoemake's!
